Students read Pledge of Allegiance in Arabic, parents freak out
Students at Rocky Mountain High School read the Pledge of Allegiance in Arabic over the school's intercom system on Monday and …WAIT! Before everyone picks up their pitchforks and heads to Colorado, this wasn't the only translation that the school has explored. Principal Tom Lopez said he approved a student request last year to translate the pledge into different languages. Students have already recited it in French and Spanish, but the Arabic version has attracted the most controversy. "I'm getting worn down a little bit by how intense [the critics'] sense of hate has been represented," Lopez said. "When [the students] pledge allegiance to the United States, that's what they're saying. They're just using another language as their vehicle." [Source]
