Gang-rape victim dies after being penetrated with iron rod (watch Video)
A gang-rape victim dies in a Singapore hospital, and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh pledges that her death will not have been in vain. The woman died on Sat., Dec. 29, 2012. The brutal rape and beating that ultimately resulted in her death happened nearly two weeks earlier, on Dec. 16, 2012, reported The Huffington Post.
On the night of the incident, the woman and a male friend were taking a bus home after going to see a movie in New Delhi, India. Six men on the bus attacked the couple. No one should ever have to suffer the pain and indignity that this woman suffered. She was gang-raped by six men, penetrated with an iron rod that destroyed her organs, stripped and thrown off a bus along with her male companion.
The unnamed woman was brought to a hospital in India where she was treated for severe and life-threatening injuries. However, the hospital did not have the resources to treat her properly, and she was subsequently transported to another hospital in Singapore. In addition to severe organ damage and external injuries, she had brain damage, developed a lung infection and suffered a heart attack.
This woman's ordeal was cruel and disturbing. India is not known for protecting women from crimes such as rape, and police there routinely ignore women's reports of sexual assault, according to multiple reports. Many women would rather not report a rape than be subjected to the ensuing humiliation and blame the victims frequently endure. The sad and troubling news stating that a gang-rape victim dies after such a brutal attack is bringing international attention to India and what must be done to keep other women from suffering similar attacks. This woman deserves justice.
The Indian woman and her companion have not been identified publicly
